What is Reiki?

Reiki is an energy practice of Japanese origin: during the session you stay fully clothed, lying down or seated, while I place my hands on or just above certain areas of the body. Most people come away deeply relaxed. No massage, no belief required: a time of calm to release what the body is holding.

Reiki, in one sentence

The word "Reiki" comes from Japanese — rei (spirit, universal) and ki (life energy). It is an energy care practice developed in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui: through light touch, or hands held a few centimetres above the body, the session invites the body to relax and release accumulated tension. People come to Reiki the way they come to deep rest — with nothing they need to believe.

How it actually works

  1. Arrival. We talk for a few minutes: how you're arriving, what's weighing on you at the moment, what you'd like from the session.
  2. Settling in. You settle in comfortably, lying down (or seated if you prefer), fully clothed. There's nothing you need to do — most people close their eyes.
  3. The session. I place my hands lightly on or just above specific areas — head, shoulders, abdomen, back. It's calm and quiet; some people feel warmth or tingling, others simply deep relaxation. There is no "right" way to feel.
  4. Coming back. We take a few minutes to talk about what you felt, and I share my observations.

Length: 60 minutes. At your home (in and around Bordeaux), or remote if you prefer (see below). In French or English.

Why people come

  • Stress that has settled in — restless sleep, knotted shoulders, a clenched jaw.
  • A demanding stretch — work overload, mental load, tiredness that rest doesn't fix.
  • An emotional transition — grief, separation, change — when the body needs room to breathe.
  • Or simply the wish for a real pause — no screens, no demands, nothing to achieve.

Many people describe, after a session, deep relaxation, easier sleep in the following days, and the feeling of having "let go" of something. Every session is different — I don't promise an outcome; I offer you a time of calm that your body uses as it needs.

What it is not

  • It is not a massage. The touch is light, or my hands stay above the body. You remain fully clothed.
  • It is not medical care. Reiki's effects are not scientifically established as a treatment. A session does not replace medical care, therapy, or medication — and I will never suggest you stop any of them. Come for relaxation and well-being, not to treat an illness.
  • It is not a religion or an act of faith. Reiki asks for no belief and no affiliation. Skepticism is welcome — the session is the same for everyone.
  • It is not a diagnosis. I don't "read" illnesses and I detect nothing medical. What I share at the end of a session is observation, not diagnosis.

How does remote Reiki work?

The in-person session is Reiki's classic format, and the one I recommend for a first time. A remote option exists: we meet on Google Meet, talk as we would at the start of an in-person session, then you settle in comfortably at home — lying down, somewhere quiet — while I carry out the session at the agreed time. We end with the same time to talk it through.

If distance makes you skeptical, that's fair. What clients take from it above all: a framed, uninterrupted time of deep rest, in their own home. Remote slots are shown in your timezone when you book.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to believe in Reiki for it to work?

No. There's nothing to believe and nothing to "do". Lie down, close your eyes if you like — that's all.

Do I need to undress?

No, never. You stay fully clothed for the entire session. Just wear something comfortable.

What will I feel?

It varies: warmth, tingling, a pleasant heaviness, sometimes nothing in particular except deep relaxation. Some people fall asleep — that's fine too. There is no "right" answer.

Can Reiki replace medical treatment?

No, never. Reiki is a well-being practice, not a treatment. Keep up any medical or psychological care you're receiving — Reiki adds to it, it doesn't substitute for it.

How many sessions do I need?

A single session stands on its own. Some clients come occasionally, others at a regular rhythm during demanding periods — we can talk about it at the end of your session, with no commitment.

Is the session confidential?

Entirely. What is said in a session stays between us.
